refurbishment of a pre-1960s stone-masonry dwelling, today in an advanced state of decay — one of its side walls had collapsed entirely. the house is divided into two spaces: the larger one, for living, with a smoke-curing chimney; the smaller, a former animal shed with a loft, reached only from outside and marked by rock outcrops. the proposal keeps the building's visual memory, in particular the blind south-west façade facing the public path and painted white, where only the gate stands out. inside, the open space and vernacular character are preserved, with a screened bathroom added and access — by wooden stairs — to the bedroom and the mezzanine storage. lime-washed walls that breathe, and grey frames accompanying a new concrete opening that echoes the old alentejo poiais.
